Hassan Imam Syed, a native from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a performer, educator, and choreographer. Hassan has performed across the United States and internationally in Canada, Pakistan, Belgium, England, The Dominican Republic, and Jamaica. Hassan received his BA in Dance from Georgian Court University, where he performed works by Sidra Bell, Gregory King, Stefanie Batten Bland, David Parsons, Rennie Harris, Daniel Gwirtzman, Randy James, Brian Sanders, and Urban Bush Women. He was the recipient of a four-year Dance Merit Scholarship and a Choreography Award. He holds an MFA in Choreography from Temple University where he was the recipient of the Rosenick Fund Award for his thesis work “Andromeda”. He has trained under the world-famous Les Twins for ten years, attending workshops in Montreal, London, Paris, and The United States. He was also accepted into the first street dance program at Jacob’s Pillow. As an active member of the street dance community, Hassan competes and battles across the globe.

His choreography has been presented at ACDA, ADF, Fringe Arts, Philadelphia Museum of Art, La MaMa, EgoPo Theatre, The Apollo Theatre, and The Kimmel Center. Hassan toured with street dance crew XXL competing in competitions throughout the United States in various HipHop categories. Hassan has danced in Cardell Dance Theater’s award-winning performance “Supper, People on the Move” and has been with the company since 2018 under Guggenheim Fellow Silvana Cardell. In 2018, Hassan created a mental health awareness program that toured throughout Pakistan’s educational schools. These events featured keynote speeches, panel discussions, and personal stories shared by individuals who have overcome mental health challenges. Through education, community engagement, and collaboration, the tour aimed to foster a society that prioritizes mental well-being and ensures access to quality mental health services for all. Hassan was the Assistant Director of Dance Ensemble at Drexel University from 2021 to 2023, where he taught a variety of studio and lecture classes, consisting of Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Improvisation. He has been an artist in residence at Georgian Court University in 2022 and 2023.
